The votes are in

We have now received all the nomination packs for the Laundry and Drycleaning Awards – The LADAs 2020. For the last five years the LADAs has celebrated businesses and individuals from all across the country for their true talent, innovation and dedication in the industry. We’ve had a fantastic response and it seems that for some, lockdown has given them the opportunity to put together a well thought through nomination pack for their chosen category.

Mark Gleed, director at MEG Events, organisers of the LADAs, CleanEx and the Triple H housekeeping awards, said: “Every year the judges comment on what a difference it makes to have a well put together pack, that meets all the criteria.

“We set clear word limits for responses to ensure a fair process. This can be very frustrating as you can have a really strong contender’s pack in your hands but which can’t be considered because they’ve written far too much. It happens every year. But we have to be fair to all.”

It’s all in the hands of the judges now – our expert panel of industry specialists. It’s their job to deliberate over the entries and create a shortlist of finalists. In non COVID-19 times part of this process would involve the judges meeting up and discussing face to face who they think are the worthy winners – and many a lively discussion has taken place over the years as each judge is prepared and happy to be challenged on their thinking. For obvious reasons we’ll be taking a slightly different approach this year – but it will no less rigorous and the debates will still happen, but virtually.

Gleed adds: “We’re obviously at the mercy of government guidelines for the event itself on Thursday 5 November and we have everything crossed and promise to make it a great event. We are on track and are ready to go as soon as any green light is given.” We’ll be announcing the shortlists of finalists during September on our various online and social media channels. And in our October issue we’ll share the full list of those shortlisted for each category.

We are on tenterhooks here! The team at MEG Events and Laundry & Cleaning Today are staying positive. We are doing everything possible to make sure that, if the government guidelines say we’re good to go, then we are fully prepared and ready to put on a great event for the Laundry and Drycleaning Awards – The LADAs 2020 – on 5 November 2020 at Mercedes-Benz World in Surrey. This established event is now in its sixth year and it’s a wonderful way to celebrate achievement and talent in the textile care, laundry and drycleaning industry. The window of opportunity has now passed for nominating who you believe are the best of the best. The judges will now pore through the entry details and deliberate at length to caret a shortlist of finalists. All finalists will be notified in September and we’ll announce those up for awards in our October issue, as well as online through all our online and social media channels. Make sure you’re signed up and following to hear all the latest. Make sure it’s in your diary so it’s something to look forward to! If all goes to plan it really will be a night to remember.

We are determined to put on the best possible LADAS 2020 event whatever the guidelines we’re given to work with. And we do completely understand that it’s difficult right now to even think about booking a night out like this in the current situation. It’s £85+vat pp or £800+vat for a table of 10 for a three-course dinner and entertainment. We’ll be constantly reviewing table numbers in light of changing social distancing guidelines so just get in touch so we can know your plans and how best to accommodate you. The Brooklands Hotel – just a few minutes’ walk from Mercedes-Benz World – is open and taking bookings for our event. Discounted rooms are £189 per room including VAT and breakfast when booked through MEG Events. If for any reason the event is not able to go ahead on 5 November, it will be rescheduled for an alternative date in early 2021 – please keep an eye on our website for further updates.
